What Are Hair Growth Stages And How You Could Increase Anagen Phase Of Your Hair

Understanding the hair growth cycle is key to optimizing hair growth stages and reducing hair shedding.

Have you ever considered why some people can grow hair past their waist, while others can’t grow hair past their shoulders? Or why you need to cut the hair on your head, but not the hair on your arms? Or maybe you’ve wondered if losing hair in the shower is normal or if it’s something to be concerned about.

Keep reading to learn about the hair growth cycle and answer these questions once and for all!

Hair Growth Stages

Hair grows from the follicle, or root, underneath the skin. The hair is ‘fed’ by blood vessels at the base of the follicle, which gives it the nourishment it needs to grow.

Between starting to grow and falling out years later, each hair passes through four stages: anagen, catagen, telogen, and exogen.

Every hair can be at a different stage of the growth cycle at any given time.

Over time, the length of the anagen stage decreases. Therefore, the hair may become weaker and thinner after each cycle.

That’s why it’s important to ensure your diet is rich in specific nutrients to maintain healthy hair growth.

Anagen (Hair Growth) Phase

The anagen, or growing, a phase is the first part of the hair growth cycle. During this phase, cells of the bulb divide rapidly, resulting in new hair growth. Eighty to 90% of hair follicles are in the anagen phase at any given time. Minoxidil hair regrowth works on this phase.

Catagen (Transition) Phase

After the hair growth phase enters the catagen phase. This short, transitional phase only lasts two to three weeks. During this, the hair stops growing and detaches itself from the blood supply. The hair becomes what is known as a club hair.

Telogen (Resting) Phase

The telogen, or resting, phase follows the transition phase. During this phase, the club hair rests while a new hair begins to grow beneath it. This new hair will eventually take the place of the club hair. The telogen phase lasts for three months, and 10-15% of all hairs are in this phase at any one time.

Exogen (Hair Shedding) Phase

The exogen or hair shedding phase is the last part of the hair cycle. During this, the resting club hair detaches and falls out.

Every hair eventually sheds, and it’s completely normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs each day.

In fact, the exogen phase is why you’ll frequently see hairs in your shower drain or on your hairbrush. You should only be concerned if there’s a sudden change and many more hairs than usual are falling out.

How Minoxidil Plays Role In Hair Growth Stages?

Minoxidil is thought to induce an early anagen phase when it’s applied to your scalp, meaning it can cause hair follicles to go through the rest of the growth process prematurely before starting to grow again.

This is why some people experience hair shedding when they first start using minoxidil. As hair follicles go through the growth process and enter into the anagen phase, old hairs can fall out in large numbers, making it seem as if you’re losing more hair than normal.

How Long Before Minoxidil Starts Working?

Since minoxidil can start afresh anagen phase for some of your hair follicles, it usually takes several months before you’ll notice any effects on hair growth.

Most studies indicate that the results from minoxidil usually start to show after six months, with few or no visible results in the first three months of use. There are also studies that don’t show any results after three months, indicating that minoxidil can take some time to start working.

In one clinical study, 26% of men reported moderate to dense hair regrowth after using a 2% minoxidil topical treatment for 4 months. This shows that minoxidil does work if you’re patient and willing to use it consistently.

In conclusion, minoxidil starts working immediately but won’t produce any noticeable results for the first three to six months. After six months, you should start to see some improvement, with the “final” results usually visible after approximately one year of continuous usage.

Hair pushes up and out through your skin. It goes through oil glands that assistance keeps it soft and sparkly.

Hair develops for some time however then drops out as each new regrowth cycle starts.

Hair miniaturization happens when the strands become thinner, shorter, more brittle and weak. This happens with each growth cycle. Over time this process makes hair lackluster and thinner.

In rare cases, hair stops growing in that area. It is also a very common problem among men, this is also a sign of patterned hair loss. It can be treated effectively when diagnosed at an early stage. Thereby helping the affected individual experience a better quality of life.

There are many reasons for hair miniaturization. Here are the top ones.

Top 5 Causes of Hair Miniaturization

Genetics: A very common example of hair miniaturization is androgenic alopecia (AA). This specific type of hair loss is an inherited feature. According to a survey, AA affects 95% of the male and 20% of the female population around the world.

It starts with receding hairline on the front. Or the hair starts going thin on the temples. The hair loss pattern is “M” shaped, an obvious sign for identifying androgenic alopecia.

Based on the severity of the condition, further hair thinning can happen in the crown region. Eventually, hair permanently stops growing in that area. This can lead to either complete or partial baldness.

DHT: Dihydrotestosterone is the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women. The male hormone testosterone is converted into DHT by and an enzyme called 5α-reeducates. The rate of conversion determines how fast the hair fall will be.

The level of DHT in the blood varies from person to person. Excess DHT in the scalp has side effects on the hair and hair follicles. It inhibits your follicle bed and prevents nutrients and minerals from reaching your hair. Eventually, the deprivation causes them to shrink. The hair falls out soon after.

All or any hair loss treatments focus on two basic things. First is reducing DHT levels in the body. And the second is redirecting faster blood flow towards the scalp and hair. This is the first step in making sure the hair follicles stay in an active growth phase by receiving essential minerals.

Telogen Effluvium: After a period of active growth, our hair goes into a rest phase. It is normal and happens to everyone. There is a pause for 2-3 months, after which the old hair fall off and new ones grow.

But in telogen effluvium, hair goes into premature rest mode. Resulting in the affected area to have less hair, showing a thinning effect. Hence displaying hair miniaturization in that area of the head.

The most common causes of Telogen Effluvium are stress, physical trauma, prescription medicines, and nutrient deficiency.

Nutrient Deficiency: Like the rest of your body, hair needs food too. More specifically it needs the nutrients from the food you eat. The right dose and combination of vitamins, minerals, fats, and proteins are what you need if you want to keep your hair healthy.

Nutrient deficiency can cause hair follicle shrinkage either directly or indirectly. Besides, a balanced diet is essential for your overall health. There are over a million biochemical reactions happening in your body per second. The nutrients you eat work together to keep your internal system healthy.

This internal system is co-dependent, where everything is connected to each other. Foods that make hair healthy are omega-rich salmon or any fish, zinc, biotin, carbohydrates, iron, magnesium, zinc, vitamins C and E.

Aging Effect: Aging is also a common and obvious reason for hair miniaturization/thinning. There is a time limit to how quickly our body can keep making new healthy cells.

After which the process slows down, this is called the “wear and tear effect”. There is a theory that our body and every cell in it is capable of a lot more than what it normally does.

But we humans can only access a small portion of that full potential due to the oxidative stress we take on a daily basis. This means free radical damage, exposure to UV light/rays, physical and emotional stress.

All this diverts the body’s energy elsewhere. Leaving hair on their own time limit.

Treatment for Hair Miniaturization

Those suffering from hair miniaturization want to know what can be done to slow or stop it. The good news is that there are several treatment options available.

Minoxidil for Hair

There are hair loss medications such as Propecia (Finasteride), Rogaine, and Regenepure Minoxidil 5%. These help to slow down and even reverse hair miniaturization in the early phase of hair loss. They can also increase the volume and thickness of hair.

Propecia stops the conversion of testosterone into DHT. Especially in the areas under the scalp and around hair follicles. The reduction in DHT can prevent miniaturization and prolong the anagen growth phase of hair.

Minoxidil 5% works by removing excess oil, dust and dead skin from the scalp. These block the pores and prevent the scalp from breathing. It penetrates deep into the skin to reach the follicle bed. There it improves blood circulation, reduces DHT levels and the anti-septic property kill all or any bacteria that may damage hair.

Hair Transplant

For a more permanent but costly treatment, the option for a hair transplant is available. This is when healthy follicles from another part of the scalp are removed and surgically place in balding or thinning areas.

Eventually, those follicles grow new hair. The treatment is expensive and needs to be done by an experienced and expert doctor.

Hair is made of an intense protein called keratin. A hair follicle grapples every hair into the skin. The hair knob shapes the base of the hair follicle. In the hair globule, living cells gap and develop to construct the hair shaft.

Black is the most well-known hair shading on the planet. Red, which just exists in around 1 percent of the total population, is the rarest. Blonde hair arrives in a nearby second, with just 2 percent of the population.

Hair can become pretty much anyplace on the body, with the exception of the palms of your hands, the bottoms of your feet, and on your lips and mucous membranes.

Hair is more flexible than you might suspect! It can grow by up to 30% of its unique length when wet.

Ever noticed hair loss during bathing? That is normal– we shed somewhere in the range of 40 and 150 strands of hair daily.

Coloring hair became popular during these days. In 1950, just about 7% of ladies colored their hair, yet in 2015, it’s up to about 75%.

Magnificence can require some investment. The normal time a lady spends to wash, dry and style her hair is 1 hour and 53 minutes every week. When she is 65, she will have gone through 7 months of her life doing her hair.

Trimming your hair does not influence its development, but rather it helps to stay away from split finishes, which can work their way up the hair shaft and make the individual shafts more slender, giving your hair the presence of not developing.

After bone marrow, hair is the quickest developing tissue in the human body.

Hair is generally comprised of keratin, which can likewise be found on the external layer of our skin and nails.

By and large, hair grows .3 – .5 mm for each day, 1.25 centimeters or 0.5 inches every month, and 15 centimeters or 6 inches for every year.

The peripheral layer of hair is known as the fingernail skin. It comprises covering scale-like portions, and it ensures within layers of hair. The fragments of the fingernail skin lay level if the hair is solid, and are normally open on dry or harmed hair.

Attempting to develop out your hair? It takes around 7 years to develop it to your midriff, and 3 years to develop it to your shoulders!

Hair can be valuable in fascinating ways. It very well may be utilized as a characteristic wipe, and it was utilized amid the 2007 Cusco Busan oil slick in the San Francisco Bay to retain oil from the water.

In the Victorian Era, hair was utilized as adornments! Individuals had clasps, pendants and watch coxcombs produced using the hair of lost friends and family as an up-to-date method for paying tribute.

A strand of hair is really more grounded than a copper wire with a similar distance across.

Hair resembles a science project– here is its arrangement: 50 percent carbon, 21 percent oxygen, 17 percent nitrogen, 6 percent hydrogen, and 5 percent sulfur.

What amount of hair do we have on our scalps? More than you’d suspect. The normal individual has 100,000 – 150,000 strands of hair on her head (so don’t stress excessively over the 40 – 150 you lost today).

You can enlighten a great deal regarding a man from her hair. It’s frequently utilized by legal researchers to get the hang of everything in a man’s circulation system: medication, drugs, liquor, nutrients, and minerals.

Men may be from Mars, and ladies from Venus, however, there is positively no distinction among male and female hair regarding development cycle and structure.

Presently for some social insights: 90% of Japanese individuals wash their hair two times every day, 80% of North Americans wash their hair two times per day, and just 25% of the European populace washes their hair day by day. Do you figure we should wash our hair consistently?

Our hair is always developing and has a life expectancy of around 5 years. 90% of our hair is developing at some random time, while the other 10% is taking a break.

The technical name of grey hair is canities and split end is known as trichoptilosis.

In Ancient Rome, ladies used to color their hair blonde with pigeon compost. Thank heavens for current hair colors!

The majority of the hair follicles in the human body are shaped when we are only five months old in the belly.

At the point when a hair drops out, it will generally re-grow. It can do this up to multiple times in a lifetime.

Argon

Eucalyptus

Mustard

Lavender

Avocado

You can mix two or more of your most preferred oils and apply it. This increases the potency and gives you double or multiple benefits.

3) Don’t Bathe Too Much

While bathing is good, but the excess of anything is bad. The reason is that our body produces its own natural oils. That helps retain moisture and prevents foreign bacteria from entering our body through the pores.

If you wash off that oil, it will make your skin dry and cracked. And as far as hair is concerned, dry hair strands look frizzy and unmanageable. Apart from this, they break off easily. Eventually, you will get an itchy scalp. Excess scratching on dry skin can cause flaking and dandruff.

The ideal way to do it is bathed after every two days. Or if you must, then once a day. And have at least a day’s margin before you jump in the shower again.

4) Condition your hair

It is important that you should condition your periodically. Use a chemical free and mild conditioner. Apply the required amount of conditioner so that it keeps your hair shiny and smooth.

This will prevent tangling and frizzing of hair. Conditioned hair is soft and moisturized. This makes managing them easier.

Avoid Using Hair Color

All hair colors are ammonia based products. Ammonia is a bleaching agent that damages your scalp and hair. It is also noted that frequent coloring/dying of hair can increase the risk of breast cancer in some people.

Hair colors eliminate the moisture in your hair, making them dry and dull. Instead of chemical-based hair colors, try natural hair colors that are not harsh on your hair and scalp.

Eat Supplements

Before trying to self-medicate, consult a doctor/dermatologist to find out the vitamin deficiency. He will recommend the best supplements for your hair type. These supplements will give you the essential nutrients and minerals that will make your scalp healthy.

They protect your hair and also boost their growth. Take supplements that are rich in all essential vitamins and minerals.

Try Hair Packs That are Natural

Use natural packs to apply on the scalp and hair. These packs help keep your hair moisturized. They are easy to make, just mix natural ingredients according to your hair type and need. Then apply at least once a week.

Protect Your Hair

To avoid hair damage, protect it with a hat or scarf whenever you got out. Especially in sunny/hot, dusty and harsh weather. This is a simple tip, but many people don’t pay much attention to it.

Protecting your scalp is the most important step towards hair care because whenever you go out, the sun and dust take away your hair’s moisture. UV light exposure can also cause free radical damage to your hair and skin.

Don’t Brush Wet Hair

Brushing wet hair will result in hair fall since, at that time, the hair roots are soft and can easily lose its grip. Let your hair dry before you comb.

Just like our body, hair too goes through a growth and change phase. When we are kids, we have full and thick hair, over time there is a lot of change. Main changes are in the rate of growth and texture.

And then, unfortunately, comes the time we have to say goodbye to them. That is when androgenic alopecia starts for every man (and women in their 40s).

If you feel your hair are thinning and/or falling out, you are definitely worried about it. The thing is, hair loss causes are related to each other, either directly or indirectly.

Is hair loss caused by genetics, stress or some other factor/s? The answer is “yes they all are responsible”. Here are some common types of hair loss, with details about each type.

Primary Hair Loss Causes

As surprising as it will sound, our hair are not meant to stay on our head for long. Hair has their own natural lifespan after which they fall out. A person loses 80-100 hair a day, which is normal. The fallen strands are soon replaced by new ones. Here are the factors that can be considered hair loss causes.

Lifespan: The average lifespan of hair is 4-5 years. When they fall out, new hair come in 4-6 months. It’s a quick process so you don’t feel there are missing hair in your head.

Excess Styling: Products like hair sprays, mattes, gels, heating and curling irons, hair dyes are all the sources of chemical exposure. These chemicals damage hair down to their core and make them weak. These weak hair are more prone to damage and falling off.

Aging: Consider an ideal situation where your hair did not fall in your late teens. After the age of 30, the peak time/phase of our youth declines, and so does our health over the years. The first thing to get affected by aging is our hair. The follicles slowly go dormant and hair begin to fall.

Secondary Hair Loss Causes

Genetics: Hair loss because of heredity is not exactly what we think it is. This hair loss is not because of excessive hair falling, rather the fact that fallen hair is not replaced. This results in receding hairline, thinning and bald patches.

Hair loss causes that influence the hereditary effects are

Gender: Genetic hair loss affects men more than women. Actually, it only affects men, women don’t go bald. They have hair thinning in their late 40s, when close to or during the menopause phase.

Age: Over the age of 30, 2 in every 5 men are bald/balding. As you age increases, more follicles start going dormant. Thus resulting in hair shedding.

Hormone Imbalance: Androgenic alopecia happens because of the male hormone testosterone. When in excess, an enzyme 5 alpha-reductase converts it into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Men/women with more DHT have hair loss issues. But since men have a lot more testosterone than women, they are most likely to go bald. Women only have hair thinning.

Hair Loss and Stress

This may seem unreal but stress actually makes your hair fall out. There are numerous hair loss causes and stress is one of them. This is considered to be an environmental factor that can be controlled.

Excess and continuous forms of stress like physical/mental/emotional or incidents like injury, surgery, illness make hair fall. Scientists are still not sure how it makes hair shed but the effects are proven to be very real.

Here are the types of hair problems associated with stress and hair loss.

Telogen Effluvium: This is considered the least severe of the 3 major types of stress-related hair fall. It is when your follicles go dormant and hair stop growing in that part of the scalp. After 2-3 months your hair falls out. But don’t worry, they grow back after 6-9 months.

Alopecia Areata: This is an auto-immune reaction of unknown origin. This is when our body’s own immune system attacks and destroys hair follicles. Hair loss follows quickly, and depending on the severity of the attack, can lose hair in a few days or a week. Hair loss happens in bald patch pattern.

But it is not restricted to your head; any part of the body can be affected. In some cases, the condition subsides and hair grows back on their own. In other cases treatment is required to suppress the immune system attacks.

Trichotillomania: This is perhaps the most severe compared to the other two problems. It is a psychological disorder where a person pulls his/her hair out because of severe stress/anxiety.

Patients reported “having a feeling of satisfaction” once they are done pulling hair out. You don’t need to be a scientist to analyze the level of stress a person is going through that they start pulling out hair.

Continuously ripping out hair not only ruptures the skin, but also the follicle bed. Eventually, the follicles stop growing back permanently. There are therapies to help the patient stop this habit. After which there are medications that help regrow hair.

Other Hair Loss Factors

There are many branches if you write down all possible reasons as to why hair falls. These include and definitely are not limited only to

Pregnancy and post childbirth phase

The nervousness that induces hair pulling habits

Cancer medicines and chemotherapy

Hair related illness or infections

Hormonal changes/imbalance increased DHT levels

How to Relieve Stress?

Change of Lifestyle to Reduce Stress

It is impossible to avoid stress for the rest of your life. But you can take a few steps to reduce the intensity that bothers you to an uneasy extent. Take a look at what is bothering you and what can you do about it. These techniques can help you reduce stress in your life whenever possible.

Try and be more social, indulge in activities that make you happy. Start exercising; science says 30 minutes daily workout is enough to lift your mood. Exert stress by letting it out in physical activities.

Eliminate Causes of Stress

Take some time out and make a list of whatever causes you stress. Is it your job? Family issues? Difficulty communicating/conveying your point of view? Whether the cause of stress is legit or are you just overthinking and blowing stuff out of proportion?

Make a list of what bothers you and how. Then write down all the steps that can be taken for fixing that problem. Writing things down is known to help with clarity of mind and make rational thinking easier.

Once you have penned down the problems and their potential solutions, start working on them. Remove stress factors one by one. This is easier said than done. But once you start regaining control over things, it gets better in the end.

Seek Help

Two things we get wrong all the time. One is that we have to face everything alone with no one there to help us. The second is the stigma around not discussing mental health issues with someone. Out of fear that you might get labeled as crazy/attention seeker/a troubled person etc.

Like physical sickness, there is emotional sickness too. The best way to stop it is to talk about it, let it out of your head. Talk to a family member, a close friend or get professional help. Bottling up your feelings will only make things worse.

What is Scarring Alopecia (SA)?

Also called Cicatricial alopecia, is an inflammatory hair fall disease. This causes bald patches on the scalp that lead to permanent hair loss because the hair follicles are destroyed. The healthy scalp tissues are destroyed too and are replaced by fibrous tissue. Since the hair follicles are destroyed, hair cannot grow there again. Almost all cases of scarring alopecia start off as normal alopecia, but somewhere something goes wrong. This slowly progresses into irreversible or permanent baldness.

Symptoms of Scarring Alopecia

Scarring Alopecia starts off with few permanent bald patches on the head. The start small and eventually grows big in size and may even cover the whole head. Their appearance is shiny and smooth. There are no pores in the affected area because of loss of follicular opening.

Common symptoms of scarring alopecia include

Periodic Pain

Patches of scaly and rough skin

Blister Formation

Crusting of skin

Itchy scalp

Burning feeling on scalp

Pus and fluid discharge from the scalp (if infected)

Causes of Scarring Alopecia

The exact cause of scarring alopecia is still unknown. But the inflammation is considered as the major contributing factor. SA is caused by the permanent degeneration of hair follicles because of inflammation. Additionally, there is a loss of sebaceous glands and low collagen synthesis.

Slow cycling hair follicle stem cell (HFSC) destruction is also another reason for SA. Hair-care habits that include excessive use of hot combs, improper hygiene and excessive traction (hair pulling) can also be responsible for scarring alopecia specifically in women.

Other causes of SA are

Inflammation of hair follicles and skin

Factors like as tumors, injuries and burns

Genetic or Heredity

Destruction of hair follicle stem cells

Impairment in self-maintenance of HFSCs

Alteration in lipid metabolism

Diagnosis of Scarring Alopecia

After careful examination of the scalp, a skin sample is taken for further testing, this is called a biopsy. This has to be done by an expert dermatologist.

The doctors will take a look at your and your family’s medical history and check for possible links. Some obvious signs like itching or burning of the scalp with pus and fluid discharge also help in diagnosis of scarring alopecia.

The age of the patient is an important indication factor. This helps determine what type of alopecia they are affected with. For example frontal fibrosing alopecia affects women going through menopause. But primary cicatricial alopecia develops in early adult life or even from the age of 16 or 17.

Closed or absent skin pores in the affected area are also an indicating sign. The doctor will perform a “hair pulling test” to determine the extent of damage. If the hair comes out easily then it means the test is positive. Meaning that SA is active and spreading quickly.

The diagnosis of SA is done on the base of

Common signs like itching, burning feeling or discharge of pus/fluid from scalp.

Absent or closed pores in the affected areas.

Hair pull test to see how deep the scarring has gone.

Scalp biopsy for skin sample examination

Scalp examination

Age of the patient and details of medical history

Before and after scalp conditions

Treatments of Scarring Alopecia

Treatment of scarring alopecia should be quite aggressive because it can lead to a lot damage or permanent hair loss. The nature of treatment varies depending on the particular diagnosis. Scarring alopecias that include for the most part lymphocyte inflammation of hair follicles, for example, lichen planopilaris and pseudopelade, are commonly treated with corticosteroids in topical creams and by infusion into the influenced skin. Likewise, antimalarial and isotretinoin medications might be utilized.

For scarring alopecias with inflammation of for the most part neutrophils or a blend of cells, the run of the mill treatment includes antibiotics and isotretinoin. All the more tentatively, drugs like methotrexate, tacrolimus, cyclosporin, and even thalidomide have been utilized to treat a few structures.

Once scarring alopecia reaches the burnt-out stage, bald areas can be either surgically removed if they are not too big or the bald patches can be transplanted with hair follicles taken from unaffected areas.

Conclusion

The problem with auto-immune diseases is that there is very little chance of finding out exactly what is causing the problem. This makes treatments a bit difficult. So for now the only options are condition suppressing medicines that stop the symptoms form surfacing as long as the medication continues.

If you notice abnormal hair loss or bald patches on your head, go see your doctor. The best way to prevent alopecia from spreading is to catch the problem as early as possible and start hair loss treatment. This will give you a head start and might even help stop the problem completely.

We all love our hair, Don’t we? Doesn’t matter what type they are. We just want them to be beautiful, amazing and above all, stay on our head. Unfortunately many of us are prone to losing our precious locks of hair.

This is because of multiple factors, but all end up at the same result. Whether hair fall out, or they grow slowly, it is a problem either way. And in desperation we are willing to try anything to get them to stay, grow faster or come back.

Causes of Hair Loss

As always there are reasons for what happens and why? Here are some of the most common reasons why hair fall or stop growing.

1) Genetics

Hair loss is a genetic problem. Your forefathers had it, and down the line they passed it on to you. This is the only source of hair loss that cannot be avoided.

Maybe years from now there will be technology advance enough to remove the genes that cause hair loss. Unlike men, women don’t go bald. They only have hair thinning in their late 40s.

2) Hormone Imbalance

Men and women have both testosterone and estrogen. This is usually in a balanced quantity. By that we mean men have more testosterone with very little estrogen. And vice versa for women.

But sometimes, there is more testosterone that converts into Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This is bad for the hair as it inhibits the follicle bed and prevents nutrients from reaching your hair.

For women, their estrogen levels are low after childbirth and during menopause. When there is more testosterone than estrogen, DHT is produced and hair fall occurs.

3) Poor Diet

A diet without all the essential vitamins and minerals can cause hair loss, or slow growth. You need all the minerals that work together to keep you healthy and your follicles active.

Nothing is created without a purpose. The body works co-dependently for every internal function and reaction. Getting enough vitamins and minerals can aid those functions and bio-chemical reactions.

Like other organs hair need food too. That is how they will continue to grow. Feeding your hair is just as important as feeding the rest of the body.

4) Poor Hygiene and Use of Chemicals

Most times we take our hair for granted. We do not give them the proper attention and care. This negligence leads to hair health deterioration. Another problem is the use of harsh chemicals on your hair and skin.

Most commercial products are made of chemicals like SLS, DEA, parables and sulfates. This is bad for your hair and skin.

5) Illness, Diseases and Stress

There are bacteria that affect your hair. So in a way you can say hair do get sick. There are many types of scalp and hair diseases that have different symptoms. The only common thing is that they all lead to hair loss.

The most common type of hair diseases are

Trichotillomania

Telogen Effluvium

Hypertrichosis

Scarring Alopecia

Alopecia Universalis

The list goes on and on, but like we said, hair loss is the end point. But not all hope is lost, if the treatment starts in time, the diseases can be prevented.

Stress, anxiety, trauma, depression etc too can cause hair loss. But the good news is that this type of hair loss is not permanent. Once that phases passes, hair comes back.

Male or Female Pattern Baldness Treatments

If you’re looking for hair loss treatments for men and women, you have come to the right place. We consulted the experts in order to get the best and effective hair loss prevention hair loss remedies.

Here is what we will be discussing.

Nutrition

Simply dieting will not save your hair. Everyone has heard the proverb “you are what you eat”. You cannot live a healthy life while eating junk food all your life. Here are some thinning hair loss remedies for you.

If you eat good and healthy food, it supplies you with essential minerals. The minerals you need for proper growth, cell repair, and synthesis. Since hair is made of a protein called keratin, you should eat protein-rich foods.

You also need fats and carbohydrates to have and keep an energy reserve. Skipping B vitamins can interfere with the formation of new hair cells and overall affect hair growth.

The best source of B vitamins is protein-rich foods like chicken, beef, mutton, fish, spinach and almost all leafy green vegetables.

Regenepure DR and NT Shampoo

Regenepure has been in the limelight for a while now. It is a company that makes hair care and regrowth products. Out of all the ones they have, the DR and NT is by far the best and safe shampoo you can start with.

The Doctor’s Recommended (DR) shampoo is a cleanser. It clears the scalp of dust, excess oil, dead skin and debris that block your pores. This makes it easier for any topical medications to penetrate deep into the skin and make hair grow.

The Nourishing Treatment (NT) supplies your hair with hair growing ingredients and binds them to the strands. This is a topical source of nourishment for your hair.

Laser Light Therapy

Portable laser light treatments or at-home handheld devices, such as the HairMax, LaserComb grow new hair. It does this by directing blood flow towards that area. But don’t expect the device to make your hair go from looking like Nicolas Cage to Nick Bateman.

These lasers won’t grow any new hair. They may just help you hang on to some of the hair that you already have, for a bit longer.

Hair Transplant Surgery

If nothing works, there is the age-old method you can try. The best remedy for replacing lost hair is via transplant. You can opt “the strip method” where a doctor surgically removes a strip of hair from the back of your head. Then dissects every hair graft under a microscope, and then implant the individual grafts onto hair-thin areas of your scalp with tiny incisions.

Minoxidil

Regenepure Topical Minoxidil 5% spray is the treatment for hair loss in men or women. Is it the best product for hair loss in men or women? Can’t say but it is one of two FDA-approved drugs for hair regrowth.

Minoxidil will slow the hair loss pace and its use will help you hang on to your hair for longer. The biggest area where you will see regrowth is on the crown, temples and front part of your head.

Make minoxidil a daily hair care treatment and watch your hair grow back.

Hair loss is very real and problematic. But so far the attention has been going to the men. In regards to how hair loss affects them in what way. It is time we gave equal attention to the women.

The term used for hair loss that affects both men and women is “Androgenic Alopecia”. But what we confuse is that hair loss in women is a lot different than it is for men.

Women don’t go bald as men do. But they lose hair/start losing hair at one point in life. So here we will be highlighting female pattern hair loss, the causes, and its treatments.

Causes of hair loss in women

Men and women are born with both types of hormones. Major changes come when the gender gene kicks in, and later at a stage of puberty. But even then, men have more testosterone and very little estrogen. And women have more estrogen with very little testosterone. The secondary hormones are in a negligible amount.

Majority of the male population is prone to hair loss at some point. This can be either partial or complete loss of hair. For women, this process is a lot different. They do not go bald, but rather have hair thinning only. This phase comes in their late 40s.

Hair loss prevention in women is not as complicated as we think. The first step is identifying the causes. Next comes to the remedial measures and treatments for those problems. We lose an average of 80-100 hair a day. But if the hair loss is abnormally frequent, then it needs to be checked.

As we mentioned earlier, women are least likely to bald. Doctors have categorized female pattern hair loss into three types.

Type 1 is minor hair thinning in the temple areas of the head.

Type 2 is the hair split becoming wider with more thinning in the surrounding areas.

Type 3 is receding hairline, and your scalp becomes more visible because of spreading hair loss.

Is Female Pattern Hair Loss Genetic?

It is an undeniable fact that hair loss is genetic. It is passed down from parent to children. Thus women are likely to inherit the hair loss gene if the parents or grandparents had it.

If it is genetic then hair loss prevention is almost impossible.

Causes of Female Alopecia

There is always more than one reason for everything. In this case, here are the most common reasons

1. Genetics/Hereditary

Hormonal Imbalance

Underlying endocrine conditions

Hormone-secreting cyst/s or tumor/s

Hyper/Hypothyroidism

DHT production in women after childbirth and during menopause.

Can Women in their 20s have Female Alopecia?

So far, all cases of female alopecia involved women above the age of 40. It is very rare for it to affect those under 30 years. But then again, there are multiple reasons and possibilities for anything.

Presence of excess male hormones called androgens causes hair loss in men. And the same can happen to women, except it is hair thinning.

How is it Diagnosed?

The most obvious sign of female alopecia is abnormal hair fall. This is when you go see a dermatologist. They will examine your scalp and check for all possibilities of hair loss.

Sometimes the reason can be an underlying condition. And the indication of that problem is hair fall. For further confirmation, doctors will take a blood test to see what else is in the body.

Treatments for Female Alopecia

While complete hair loss prevention is not possible, there are ways to control and stop the excess hair fall. Thus preventing the “balding effect”.

Early treatment is strongly advised, as it can help prevent future hair loss. Your treatment plan will likely consist of one or more medications approved to treat hair loss.

Minoxidil for Hair Loss Prevention

Minoxidil is an FDA approved the medication for treating hair loss. It is available in 5% concentration for women. This is the most effective amount that will help grow back hair.

The application is simple; use it once a day and every day. Apply minoxidil on the affected areas where hair is thin. Make sure you apply on the scalp. Gently massage it in, and repeat this every day.

This will take about 30-60 days before you see any results. Also, you need to be consistent and punctual with the treatment. If you stop or discontinue, then progress will reverse.

Dutasteride and Finasteride

Dutasteride (Avodart) and Finasteride (Propecia) are FDA approved hair loss treatments for men. They’re not officially approved for women, but some doctors do suggest these for female alopecia.

Clinical trials have mixed results. But overall they are efficient in helping women regrow hair.

Other Treatment Options

Iron deficiency is known to contribute to hair loss. Doctors will prescribe an iron supplement and recommend iron-rich foods. For now, there is no evidence that directly links iron to hair growth. But it improves blood circulation and makes red blood cells carry more nutrients and minerals.

Faster supply of more nutrients for hair follicles does mean better and effective growth. Other supplements like folic acid and biotin also make hair thicker.

Another study showed that women grew thicker hair after taking omega-3, omega-6 fatty acids, and antioxidants. However, it’s best to ask your doctor first and make an informed decision.

Laser combs and helmets are FDA-approved methods of treatment for hair loss. It uses light energy to stimulate hair growth.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy can also be beneficial. This involves drawing your blood, spinning it down. Then injecting your own platelets back into your scalp to stimulate hair growth.

If you dye your hair, stop doing that. Dyes are ammonia based products which are harmful to your hair and skin. Ammonia is a form of waste product forms our body. When re-exposed, it causes premature graying, pigment loss in hair and dryness.

Can Female Pattern Baldness be prevented?

In some cases hair loss prevention is unavoidable. You can’t stop female alopecia, but you can protect your hair from breakage and loss. By being careful with your diet, hair care routine and checkups in case of abnormal hair loss.

Let’s be honest, no matter how much we know, we can never be prepared enough for hair loss. This is what all men have to face at one point in their lives.

The bad news is you can’t change the course of the natural order. The good news is there are ways of keeping this problem at bay. With every problem comes to a solution, eventually.

So here we will be discussing what causes hair loss. And what are the plausible treatments and countermeasures to prevent them. So let’s begin

Hair Loss Causes

As always there are reasons as to what happens and why it happens. Here are some of the most common causes for hair loss in men and women.

Telogen Effluvium

Telogen Effluvium is known as the resting stage of hair. Hairs will grow for a few years, then rest for a few months, shed, and regrow. It can be chronic or acute.

An extensive number of various reasons for telogen emanation exist. Among the regular causes are high fevers, labor, extreme diseases, serious interminable ailment, extreme mental pressure, real medical procedure or sicknesses, over or under dynamic thyroid organ, crash abstains from food with lacking protein, and an assortment of prescriptions.

Most male pattern baldness from meds is this sort and causes incorporate retinoid, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, antidepressants, and NSAIDS (counting ibuprofen).

Telogen Effluvium Treatments: Telogen Effluvium is self-redressing. It is truly not impacted by any treatment that can be given. Be that as it may, delicate treatment of the hair, keeping away from over-energetic brushing, and any sort of scalp knead are imperative.

You should guarantee a nutritious diet, with a lot of protein, and vegetables.

Genetics and Heredity

It is in your blood, literally. The genes for hair loss are passed down from parent to children. Your grandfather was bald, your father is bald, and chances are you will be too.

A branch of research claims that the gene for hair loss comes from the mother. Not the father as we all generally have assumed this whole time. There is much more research needed to be done before we can have concrete proof. But regardless, form mom or dad, it’s still coming.

There is no way to rewrite your genetic code or have that one gene removed. Well not yet anyway.

Hormonal Imbalance

Your hormones play a major role in your body. They control every single cell and have +100,000 functions in your biological chemistry. Hormones are basically there for the development of your sexual organs once you reach puberty.

Sometimes the excess male hormone testosterone converts into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Men and women are born with both hormones, but females have more estrogen. DHT in males causes hair loss (partial/permanent). While in females, it is only enough to cause hair thinning.

Improper Diet

Being a picky eater or not eating enough of what you need is not good. You need a balanced supply of all essential nutrients so you can grow healthy, strong and stay immune to diseases.

Every mineral is multi-purpose; you may just take it for the sake of your hair. But it is also doing the rest of your body a lot of good. They all work together to make sure you are healthy and resistant to potential diseases.

Poor Hygiene

You need to shower, if not every day then every other day. When you are dirty, your skin is a pool of bacteria. Washing off dirt, sweat and dead skin is a must if you want to be healthy and clean.

Washing your hair is important too. This will remove the dirt, dust, debris and dead skin that is blocking the pores. Thus not allowing the scalp to breathe properly.

Use of Chemical-Based Products

You may not realize it, but your lathery blueberry scented shampoo is damaging your hair. They are made from dangerous and harmful chemicals that strip your hair of oils and nutrients. The more you use it, the more damaging it is.

Another source of chemicals is using hair dyes. Sure they look amazing on the outside, but the wreck they cause on the inside is almost irreversible.

Hair Loss Remedies And Treatments

Now that we discussed the causes and problems, let’s come to the solutions. Here are the best and most effective ways you can do to prevent hair loss.

Use Essential Oils

Essential oils are by far the best natural solutions for your hair related problems. Here are some of the most popular oil and a brief description of what they do.

Coconut: It is rich in fatty acids, proteins and helps your hair retain moisture. It leaves your hair light, soft and bouncy with regular use.

Olive: It is an excellent moisturizer and is very rich in vitamin E. Olive oil will remove dirt, dust, debris, and dandruff from your scalp.

Almond: It enriches the hair with proteins and fatty acids. It reverses damage caused by UV rays and chemicals. Anti-Oxidants prevent free radical damage to hair strands and scalp. It improves blood circulation towards the scalp, delivering nutrients and minerals to your hair.

Eucalyptus: The anti-septic property prevents any bacterial or fungal infections. It is a natural pesticide that will prevent and kill head lice. It stimulates the follicles, keeping them in an active growth phase.

Other oils like jojoba, avocado, lavender, and argan etc. have their own benefits. But they all have one thing in common, they make hair healthy.

Eat a Balanced Diet

The quote “you are what you eat” is very real and very legit. This means whatever you eat becomes a part of you.

You need to eat all types of nutrients and minerals in a balanced portion. This will give you the necessary vitamins and minerals that will keep you healthy. Eat foods like

Meat (beef, mutton, chicken)

Eggs

Green vegetables

Fresh Fruits

Pulses

Fish

Nuts

Supplements

Sometimes we need the extra boost. The best way to do that is to take some extra supplements on a daily basis. This will give your body a little more help in its aim to achieve better health and good hair.

Do not self-medicate, talk to your doctor about this. Based on your health status and BMI (body mass index) they will recommend the ideal supplements in the right amount of dose.

Cosmetic Solutions

We talked about the two most basic steps that will help prevent hair loss. And/or stop the ongoing hair fall that you have. Let’s talk about other things that can be done.

Change your Hair Products

As we mentioned above, your shampoos are doing more harm than good. They’re made from chemicals like DEA, SLS, parables, and sulfates. They dehydrate the skin and remove natural oils from your scalp and hair.

This deteriorates hair health over time. Prolonged use can lead to excessive and permanent damage. The solution is to ditch all chemical based products and switch to ones that are made of plant/vegetable extract.

Minoxidil

Minoxidil for hair loss is a popular treatment in the hair industry. Since its discovery in the early 90s, it has been patented as the ideal hair restoration solution.

Minoxidil for hair loss comes as a 5% concentration solution for both men and women. Research showed that this is the ideal amount that is very effective in making hair grow again. Any higher concentration is not effective as we cannot absorb in excess amount.

Minoxidil works by improving blood circulation towards the scalp. It lowers DHT levels so it cannot affect hair follicle functionality. Minoxidil dissolves excess skin oil and removes dead skin that blocks the pores. This allows the scalp to breathe.

Regenepure Minoxidil 5% Spray is the typical example of Minoxidil. Adding it to your daily hair care routine will help grow your hair back. However, you should know that this is a treatment, not a cure. If you stop using this, or any treatment, the progress will reverse with time. So make sure you are punctual and consistent once you decide to start using it.
